My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Starkey’s family never came looking for him. Day in and day out he looked from behind the bars of his crate at the SPCA Valleyfield – waiting and hoping. We are not sure how Starkey feels but needless to say he yearns for another home. Starkey is a Spitz-x with possibly some Shelte in his mix; no doubt about it, he is quite the barker. Starkey is like a working dog who ought to be kept busy; he needs exercise (even at 6 years old) to keep his body and mind healthy. Although Starkey has a penchant for barking, dogs do also bark out of boredom, frustration, and attention. If Starkey gets daily walks and mental stimulation through toys, fetching balls, or simple interaction with his human, the barking will lessen. Starkey will never be a candidate for condo or apartment living. Starkey’s coat is not in good condition – his fur is sparse in patches and very uneven. His patchy coat is most likely caused by prolonged shaving. His family were not keen on all the shedding. Shaved dogs will still shed ... just shorter, prickly, hairs. Fur protects dogs from the sun in summer and the cold in winter and dogs like Starkey are not meant to be shaved. It will take a few months for him to get his nice coat back. In the meantime, Starkey needs a family who will open up their heart and home to him. At sIX years old, he does not deserve the trauma of another major change in his life. Starkey needs to be a cherished member of his new family for the rest of his life. If you would like to adopt Starkey, please fill in the Adoption Form.
