Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Iris was born in September of 2012 and shortly after was diagnosed with a congenital condition known as Eyelid Agenesis. This simply means she was born missing a portion of her upper eyelids. Without the protection of eyelids, the eye is exposed to dirt and injuries, while the fur and eyelashes often rub against the eye leading to ulcers.
When Iris was old enough, she went through a series of surgeries to correct her eyelids. She came through these procedures with flying colors. Her eyes may not have the perfect shape but she is pain free and she can see.
One of the questions we are ofter asked about Iris is can she hear?? The answer is yes. Even though some white cats with blue eyes are deaf, Iris was born with a patch of gray between her ears. This patch of gray gets smaller and smaller as she grows.
Iris is very playful and has been raised with other cats and dogs.
To adopt you must first complete an adoption application and either come to an adoption event or arrange to meet the cat in its foster home. We do not do same day adoptions so, generally, we can only adopt within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
