Leroy's Story...
"Lucky Little Leroy" is a special young dog with an incredible story. His rescuer found him trotting down the center line of a rural highway on February 14th- Valentine's Day! He was in extremely poor condition-emaciated, loaded with ticks, fleas, and parasites, and almost hairless from a demodectic mange infection that had left his skin infected and oozing. He tried to run from her, but was so weak that he only made it a few yards before collapsing. Two months later, he is now a happy, healthy, playful young dog! Leroy is about 8 months old and weighs 24 pounds, so he should remain on the small side ( under 30 pounds). He has an incredible personality, and everyone that meets him loves him. Leroy is inquisitive, loving, and very eager to please. He gets along well with other dogs of all sizes and loves to play. Fine with dog savvy cats. He is good around horses, although he does try to chase his foster mom's goats and chickens sometimes. Leroy can be shy around new people, but warms up quickly and is very loyal- he follows his foster mom every where and loves to go to work with her. He is not a destructive chewer, although like most young dogs he does need to be supervised when loose in the house. Leroy is housetrained, cratetrained, and leash trained. He is neutered, vaccinated, and UTD on heartworm preventative. He does have demodectic mange, which is hereditary and is not contagious to people or dogs. He does not need any medication to control it, and it will not necessarily occur again. He is a really special young dog that needs an equally special family!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Leroy, a Richmond Pointer/Blue Heeler dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pointer/Blue Heeler for sale in Richmond, or seeking a Pointer/Blue Heeler dog from a breeder in Richmond.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Richmond already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Richmond breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pointer/Blue Heeler breeders who help with Pointer/Blue Heeler rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Richmond paves the way for another one to be saved.
