My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Betsy is an adorable little girl who’s tiny but tough, lovable yet independent. She loves playing with other dogs, running in the yard, or going on long walks in the woods. “Bets” is a great little dog, who will give you kisses and make friends, if you give her a little time to trust you. She still gets a little nervous if you approach her too quickly. Initially she's more comfortable if you let her approach you. She will probably never love being picked up, but once she trusts you she will tolerate it. She's very smart and learns quickly! It’s hard to believe she's the same girl who first came to us. She’s gone from cowering in the corner to happily taking walks in the woods; from running away to waking us with kisses every morning.

The Betsy that you see in the video and photos will not be the Betsy you see initially, but with patience (allowing her to develop trust and come to you), you will be rewarded with a very loving, affectionate and spunky Betsy who will be a pleasure to have as a part of your family. She very much wants love and affection from people. She is a lovely little girl with a lot to offer and needs a place to belong, to be loved for who she is and to settle in once and for all.

Please note it is highly recommended that the adoptive family have a resident dog or dogs before adopting Betsy. She LOVES other dogs and will follow the routine you have established for your resident dogs. Initially, she is too nervous with new people and situations to follow direction from a human, though this changes as she gains trust. Having another dog who she can follow and who interacts with you will give Betsy the confidence to trust that she is safe and secure.

It is also recommended that you have a fully fenced in yard or fenced area of your yard. Initially Betsy won't come to a stranger when called, and is difficult to put a collar and leash on if she is frightened. A fenced in yard will make her transition that much easier for her and for you!

Since we don't know at all what doggy genes are in the dogs make up (we don't know who mom & dad are!), we are guessing on breed.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis.

If you are interested in meeting this dog or pup please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at www.safehandsrescue.org under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable dog Meet and Greet on Saturday July 27th from 12-2 pm at Fetch Delivers Warehouse. 2303 Kennedy Street in Minneapolis.
