My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Just add love! Bailey is a sweet, sweet boy who asks nothing of life except the chance to love and be loved by his people. He gets along fine with other dogs, particularly smaller ones, but if given a choice between canine companionship and human, the people will win out every time.

Bailey came to MWCR as an owner surrender along with his friend Penny the collie. They had originally been purchased to be a breeding pair, but they were too closely related for that, so the two went to live with family members. The family loved Bailey and Penny, but just didn't have enough time for them, so they made the hard decision to give them up. Penny has been adopted, and now it is Bailey's turn.

Bailey is an extremely well mannered collie boy who is fully housetrained and completely trustworthy when left alone in the house. He knows the basic commands of “sit,” “back,” and “come” and is working on “stay.” He walks nicely on his leash and rides well in the car once he has had a chance to get used to it. He is very good about grooming and never tires of being brushed. He has shown no herding behavior, though he does like to protect his foster mom from the vacuum cleaner by biting at it.

Bailey is good with children, though his size (he's a big boy with a big coat) might make him a little intimidating to very young kids. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and then he can't get enough petting. Bailey has lived in harmony with kitties and is fine with other dogs. His first love, however, is always people.

Bailey loves attention – any kind of attention. He is a little anxious in new situations and when meeting new people, but once he feels comfortable, he is quick to give his heart. His forever family just needs to give him a few days to feel at home and they will have a friend for life.

Bailey will make a wonderful addition to almost any family. He could fit in nicely with children, cats and other dogs, or he would be happy as the only pet of a couple or single person. Ideally, he would like to have a fenced yard, but in the right circumstances that might not be necessary. The only non negotiable requirement is love, lots and lots of love.
