Are you one of those people who have a hard time making up their mind? Boy or girl pug, hmmm, tough choice. Or maybe you want it all in one perfect package? Well we have the pug for you!!

Puggy Pat came to us through an all breed rescue. Puggy’s owner was a hoarder and had many, many dogs, many of whom were large and feral. Puggy had been attacked by one of the larger dogs and lost an eye. When Puggy’s owner passed away, he left his dogs to an all breed rescue and they felt Puggy needed to be in breed specific rescue.

When we received Puggy we were told his penis was on backwards. We thought this was really, really odd, but it did look like it was on backwards, pointing bacward instead of forward. We took him to one of our vets, who first said that Puggy’s penis had been traumatically broken and that had caused it’s odd position. This still didn’t sound right, so he went to another vet, who finally made the correct diagnosis. Puggy Pat is a hermaphrodite.

Puggy immediately underwent surgery to remove any internal organs. In hermaphrodites, these organs frequently become cancerous, so we wanted them out right away. They removed two testicles (from his stomach!), two ovaries and a uterus. He is now left with a vagina which contains a non-functioning penis. They chose not to remove the penis for fear it might cause Puggy to become incontinent. He has no issues with knowing where to go like a complete gentleman, that he is. A small bit of the penis peeks out, we try to keep it clean and the vet said we could apply a topical lubricant, but Puggy has lived with this all of Puggy’s life, so it seems to be okay just like it is.

Puggy Pat has had a hard life, and would now like to spend his retirement with someone who will love him and accept him and his “differences”. He is a sweet and loving baby and enjoys other small dogs. He is perfect in every way and a loving companion. Can you be the special forever home Puggy has been looking for?
