PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO TO LEARN ABOUT SRC'S ADOPTION PROCESS AND THE DOG YOU ARE INTERESTED IN.
Please note: Our dogs are NOT located in Lenoir, NC. They are in foster homes throughout NC, SC, and VA. You must be willing to drive to the dog’s foster home in order to adopt it. The location of each dog is listed at the bottom of its bio.
Our Available Dogs are updated daily. If you see a dog on our site, it is available for adoption on that day. Emails asking if a dog is available for adoption will not be answered.
Just as the Available Dogs are updated daily, so are the bios. The bios are very descriptive and tell everything we know about a dog. If something is not listed in a bio, we do not know it at the time you are reading it. Emails asking for more information will not be answered.
BEFORE you can meet any of our dogs, you must be approved to adopt. This means you must first download an application from our website and submit it via email or fax (1-910-401-1317). A vet check or a reference check is then completed and if that goes well a home visit is done. The entire process takes 3-7 days normally, depending on your location. If we do not have anyone in your area to do your home visit we will ask you to reach out to local vets offices, shelters, and rescues to get this done.
Please do not apply to adopt a dog if you are not prepared to welcome it into your home within two weeks of applying. We do not hold dogs and we adopt them out on a first come first served basis based on a completed adoption process.
SRC does not adopt out its dogs to families with children under ten years of age. This is for the protection of the dogs and for the protection of the children
Once you are approved to adopt you must make your donation online via our website and sign an adoption contract BEFORE you pick up your new dog. SRC does NOT do meet and greets on the same day as adoptions so if you want to meet the dog first, you must make two trips to the foster home. Keep in mind that if, while you are waiting to meet a dog, another approved applicant decides to commit to it, the dog is no longer available for adoption.
STERLING (SRC#1386) is a 3-5 year old male Toy Poodle who weighs 18lbs. Sterling came to SRC from a kill shelter where the workers fell in love with him and could not bear to put him down when his time was up. SRC gladly accepted him into rescue and this curly haired little guy is a true delight.
Sterling's foster parents also call him Evan, so he answers to either. The shelter thought he looked like a Sterling, the SRC vet an Evan, so he is Sterling Evan the Poodle. Now all he needs is a last name to make his life complete.
Sterling is a great guy, never aggressive, and will make a wonderful companion for any family. He can sometimes try to be a little "bullyish" with other dogs so he needs a firm owner if his new home has other dogs. He is currently living with other dogs and is fine when monitored with them.
Sterling rides well in the car and he loves to go for car rides. He does request that you allow him to ride in the passenger seat or in someone's lap if the passenger seat it occupied, and once he is comfy he will curl right up and go to sleep. He just likes to be near you always and he likes to feel like your side kick.
Sterling loves to be held and will let you carry him around anywhere. He is very tiny so he is very portable.
Sterling enjoyed his day at the spa recently and was very well behaved. He definitely did not mind being pampered, getting his nails trimmed, or having his hair cut.
Sterling is house trained and crate trained. As with all male dogs, we do recommend a belly band when they first go to a new place, but Sterling is a gentleman in the house. He is not used to being home alone all day, so he needs a home that will at least allow him a potty break mid-day if his new parents work.
STERLING IS BEING FOSTERED IN REIDSVILLE, NC. YOU MUST BE WILLING TO DRIVE THERE IN ORDER TO ADOPT HIM.
Sterling is neutered, up to date on his shots, microchipped, heartworm negative, and he has been de-wormed. His adoption donation includes 30 days of pet insurance and microchip registration for one year.
Please meet this adoptable canine who has recently been rescued by SRC from certain death or potential horrible abuse. It is our worthy mission to assure that STERLING whose unique SRC identification number is (SRC # 1386 ) will now have a happy and healthy life. Ours is the first step to assuring this happens! As soon as this needy canine comes into our custody the rescued dog will be examined by one of our professional SRC veterinarians who will give administer a medical examination which includes but is not necessarily limited to heart-worm and fecal testing, deworming, updating vaccinations, spay or neuter if not already done, micro-chipping and any other medical procedure necessary that our vet feels is required to assure this rescue’s health at that time. Once this dog is cleared by our SRC vet, then the rescued dog will be placed in a loving SRC foster home for a minimum of two weeks so that their foster parent will be able to adequately evaluate the needs of the dog in their care. This way the foster parent is able to give very valuable information to the adoptive parent about their new family companion in order to assure the upcoming adoption day will be a happy and successful one! We at SRC strive to match our rescued canines and adoptive parents as closely as possible so both dog and their permanent family will be very happy together for years to come.
