Helmut's Info...

I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and not good with cats.

Helmut's Story...

Helmut is a beautiful soft ear German Shepherd, based on everything we see, we think he's a purebred, however

due to breeders who just let their dogs go about wonton and willy nilly, breeding whenever they want,

and not breeding for high standards, some GS's end up with ears that do not go erect.

However with that said, Helmut is so worth rescue. This sweet, gentle, 'nothing riles me up' boy we are pleased

to take him into the rescue.

Helmut came from South Carolina and went into a shelter with a female as a stray. The owner new they were there but

chose not to go save them. His female companion was euthanized and Helmut was very much in danger of being killed.

IDGSR stepped up to take this boy in to our German Shepherd Orphanage and save his life.

He will be undergoing a full assessment and evaluation, however he has all ready showed us he's a very nice young fella.

While he needs some leash work and obedience as is the case with any of our dogs, Helmut is sweet, gentle, friendly to all

and nice to the other dogs here at at the orphanage.
update on Helmut: Helmut has been with us for a month now and we have to say, he is the nicest dog ever. He is so sweet, gentle, affectionate and will make a fabulous companion to someone. He is excellent in the home and well mannered. He loves his crate or the couch and I can't emphasize how gentle and easy going he is. He does not rile up or get overly excited. He is very calm and is a submissive male.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Helmut, a Portland German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Portland, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
