Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Simon: 18 month old male declawed seal point Himalayan
fostered in Santa Cruz
Simon was bought as a kitten and then declawed. According to his paperwork he was the only pet in a family with 8 ( eight ! ) children aged 3 to 17. He was turned into the shelter for "unpredictable biting" when he was a year and a half old. That could have been predicted. Poor little kitten. All alone with 8 kids, who I am sure did not know how to read kitty body language and treat him with careful awareness.. Generally cats really give clear warnings with their body language. The angrily twitching tail for example is pretty clear message to stop doing what you are doing. This guy, almost defenseless without his claws, did the only thing he could if he couldn't escape, which it to nip or bite. A family that would buy one kitten to be a cute pet/ toy for their kids and also declaw it is probably a family in which the parents are not very kitty savvy themselves. I think this guy was bought kind of the way people buy cute baby bunnies at Easter and then turn them into the shelter when the novelty wears off.
So I am glad actually they brought their Himi boy to the shelter. He probably needed out of that family. Of course taking a cat to a shelter and saying he bites is super dangerous to the cat -- it means a one way trip to the euthanasia room unless a rescue has space for him and can step forward and get him out quickly enough.
So Simon's a little cutie. Look at those big blue eyes. Crazy whiskers. Big ruff. Currently Simon has a lion shave so his fur is short and growing in on his back. He came in a little edgy and upset and is settling down. He doesn't want hands near his tail which doubtless has been pulled. Other than that he is generally happy to be petted. He will be totally fine but I bet it will take a year for him to really unfold and trust humans. He is just a baby still and what he has learned about life with humans I am sure has not been all good. He wants attention and likes to be petted, a bit on his own terms. His lovebug Himi nature will revive and he will have a happy life with his new family. I would say let's send him to a home with no children. I am not sure yet how he does with other cats or dogs.
He has a very distinctive silly meow- lower, sort of like a smoker's voice. He will say hello when you come up and greet you. And suggest a Temptation treat.
He eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
