My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Meiya (pronounced Mia) she is a beautiful 1 year old Chesapeake Bay retriever cross who weighs 47 lbs and she has the coolest wavy/curly fur. Meiya is very intelligent and really tries to be obedient. She is a goofy girl who is vocal and talks when she wants attention which her foster parents think is very cool. She likes to spend her time finding cool places to relax when it’s hot outside, or on the deck in the evening or inside with her people. Meiya is house trained and will go in her crate willingly during the day, especially if there is a tasty treat involved. She doesn’t like sleeping in her crate at night but is very well behaved in the house and will sleep on her blanket all night. She is learning basics commands and has mastered “sit” and “down”, she is working on stay and her recall. She is also learning her door etiquette but still wants to go out first when she is not reminded consistently. Meiya loves going on long walks and is coming along very quickly with her leash training. She does have a tendency to get very excited when she sees other dogs as she really wants to play! Meiya loves to play fetch and is learning to “give”, but to her, it’s more fun to “keep”. Meiya still has lots of her puppy energy so she really benefits from daily walks and “play” time. Meiya gets along well with her foster brother but wants to goof around and play “chase” more than he does. Meiya does bark when people come to the house and she is a little reserved meeting new people for the first time but she warms up very quickly. Meiya is definitely a people pleaser she loves tummy rubs, playtime and relaxing! Meiya probably would do best with confident, experienced people. She really needs a firm, consistent but kind approach to her continued training. She would love to attend obedience classes and would probably excel at agility or flyball. Please apply to meet this beautiful girl.
