My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Daiki (die-kee), which means "of great value", is a 1 year old pure bred Red male Shiba Inu that came into our rescue on January 14th. The person that surrendered him to us had actually not gotten him for themselves but rather took in the Shiba from a breeder turned hoarder type situation. Their intentions were to have him neutered, vaccinated and work on his social skills with people as he is very shy and fearful, but the person themselves fell on hard times and couldn't devote the time and money they had wanted to. They had listed him on craigslist and was thrilled when we contacted her. While she did not ask for a rehoming fee to the public, she did ask for some assistance with dog food for her personal dogs which we were happy to help her with.

Daiki has made a tremendous amount of progress in his foster home but still has a ways to go. He still does not seek out any affection from his foster parents and he has been in rescue since early January. They can sometimes approach him and he will crouch down and allow petting but he is more tolerating it and is freezing out of fear rather than staying because he enjoys it. This may be how Daiki always is and his new owner should understand that adopting a dog like Daiki is more of a selfless act rather than finding a dog that can be a companion.

Daiki does thrive in other areas however and is both potty trained and crate trained. He can also use a doggie door but we wouldn't ever recommend leaving Daiki out loose (even in the home) if no one is home in the house. He is still young and could get into something he shouldn't. Daiki is good with other dogs and also good with cats. We would like Daiki to be adopted into a home with another dog that can show him the ropes. Daiki is not very playful with dogs yet but may do an occassional run around the backyard with his foster brother and sister. He can also be trusted with short chain link fencing and he will not attempt to escape.

Daiki originally would not walk on a leash at all for us but now is doing better with that too. However he still startles with quick movements so he is not likely to be a running or jogging partner anytime soon. We also dont' feel Daiki could only use a leash and walks as his source of bathroom breaks so no apartments at this time please.

Daiki's adoption fee is $350.00 which includes his neuter, deworming, distemper and rabies vaccinations, microchip and a 6 week professional training course.
