My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

12/3/13 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!
Adoption Fee: $400

Fostered in Louisiana

Age: 3 years

7
Weight: 7 lbs.

10/15/13 - Gracie had cataract surgery on August 28th and her eyes have returned to their beautiful deep brown color and she now can see again. One thing Ms. Gracie doesn't care for is her eye drops that she is still on. She runs from her foster mom at the first sight of her grabbing the bottles. lol

Other than that, Gracie is as clingy as ever to her foster mom. She co-exists fine with other pups, but truly just focuses her attention on her people. Gracie is one that attaches herself to her people (after a warm up period) and no one or nothing else matters. She is dedicated to her foster mom and will bark at newcomers, but quickly quiets down. We know that she will get used to her new mom and/or dad whenever that perfect application comes along, but we also know that it will take her a little while to warm up and then be ready, she will not leave your sight.

She does love new toys and when you give her one, she is totally fixated on it for quite some time. She appreciates new things. What an appreciative gal.

Who out there wants this kind of smothering and devotion from man/woman's best friend?

8/15/13 - Gracie visited the opthalmologist on Tuesday, 8/13 to make sure everything was good to go for her surgery. Seems that the cataract in her left and right eye have progressed very rapidly and the opthalmologist felt that the date of surgery should be moved up. She is now scheduled for surgery on August 28th. Please say prayers for Gracie.
7/17/13 - We have scheduled Gracie’s cataract surgery for September 4, 2013. So Gracie said to tell everyone that is interested in her that since she will have perfect eyesight by Christmas, she will be expecting a lot of presents under the tree with her name on the tags.

7/11/13 - Gracie had her appointment with the opthalmologist yesterday. Dr. Carter found that the cataract in Gracie’s right eye is complete and she cannot see out of that eye, and she also has an incomplete cataract in her left eye that is expected to progress rapidly as her right eye did. At that point, Gracie will be blind. She feels that this condition is hereditary, but Gracie is a great candidate for cataract surgery and will have full vision in both eyes if surgery is chosen. To that end, YHR has elected to let Gracie undergo cataract surgery. She is so young and it would be a shame not to fix this for her now so she isn’t blind by the time she is 4-5 years of age. We know that blind dogs get around find, but since this is able to be fixed and she has a long life ahead of her, we would hate to make her go through life in the dark just because some breeder chose not to take her mother and father out of the breeding line with this defect.

The estimate from Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialist for both eyes (which includes rescue discount) is $3,300. Hefty? Yes! Worth it to Gracie? Definitely!!

If you can donate any amount to assist in allowing Gracie to enjoy the world through cataract free eyes, please do. All donations are greatly appreciated, and Gracie thanks you from the bottom of his little heart!

7/8/13 - Gracie went to the vet to be spayed, have her dental, and get a microchip and to check an ear infection and to look at one of her eyes that looked cloudy. All went well and she received meds for her ear and the vet said that she had a cataract in her right eye. We are going to make her an appointment with Dr. Renee Carter at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists to find out a more definitive explanation and see if it is slow or fast progressing and if anything can be done for her since she is so young.

6/25/13: --She will stare adoringly at you and follow you around non-stop.
--She waits for your every move and would love nothing more than to be held and loved all the time.
--She co-exists fine with the other pups in the home, but would also be great as an only dog.
--She isn’t jealous when you give the others attention, just as long as she can have alot too.

Welcome Gracie!. Gracie is the epitome of a clingy dog. Wanting always to sit on your lap, be held, be talked to, be loved. She was given up by her previous owner of one week when they found out that she does not tolerate children. She needs an all adult household that has the time to focus on Gracie. She is such a good girl and adapts to new situations very fast.

She does very well going on pee pads once she knows where they are and actually prefers them to going outside. This is probably a little because she was in a cage the whole beginning of her life.

Gracie does well with a bath and walks fine on a leash and harness. She loves sleeping with foster mom and dad and sleeps through all night.

Gracie is an easy dog, she just needs someone that wants a pup that is needy and wants their undivided attention. She doesn’t need an active household where mom and dad are in and out alot since she totally adores being with her humans.
