My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maddie is a fully grown, 3 year-old, neutered Springer Spaniel Mix at 40 pounds. Yes, he’s a boy with a girlie name! But let’s not digress. Maddie is fully vetted, heartworm negative & parasite free, on preventatives, microchipped, house & crate-trained & has excellent manners.
Maddie was a starving, wet, cold, muddy stray who had been hit by a car in January. It took three weeks of rescue attempts to save this boy and another two weeks of care before he was strong enough to survive FHO surgery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Femoral_head_ostectomy) to repair his shattered pelvis. Maddie is now a happy, healthy, recovered boy at an appropriate weight who should have no long term effects from his surgery.
Maddie has genius level intellect & understands many cues that we are still discovering! We do not know what his former life was like but he is a well-trained canine. He is a quick & eager learner like most of his breed. He has a high level of energy and requires moderate-active daily exercise. As typical with the breed, if not given an outlet for his enthusiasm he can become stressed & anxious. While Maddie thoroughly enjoys a long round of fetch & is more than slightly obsessed with tennis balls & Kong Wubbas, due to his FHO surgery he has retired from competitive sports, hunting & working conditions.
Maddie prefers a single-pet home so he can relish in all his family’s attention--not to mention dibs on all the tennis balls & Kong Wubbas! He will do best with an owner who works from home as the only thing he loves more than his toys are his people. Even though Maddie is an active pooch he prefers routine and a calm home environment, possibly with older children. And when playtime is over Maddie insists on having “his” spot on the couch when it’s time to snuggle for the evening!
Maddie must have a secure, wooden fenced yard--no electric or “wire-type” fences allowed! Maddie enjoys a romp in the yard with his family but does not like to be left alone outside. If left alone outside for long periods of time he may become your new landscaper, which may lead to an escape. As a hound, Maddie does like to entertain his family by singing. While Grammy worthy, this may not be appreciated by all so we would not recommend an apartment for Maddie.
