My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maya is a beautiful Staffordshire Terrier/lab mix who desperately needs a home of her own! She was pulled from Memphis Animal Shelter where she'd been locked up for a month, only to be let out while her cage was being cleaned. She was in a foster home for awhile but didn't get along with one of the foster mom's dogs; however, she played and got along very well with the foster mom's other dog.

We had Maya evaluated by a behaviorist who recommended she be in an only dog family situation. She's not aggressive towards dogs but doesn't like another dog correcting or controlling her. We feel she may have been traumatized either while at Memphis Animal Shelter or prior to her arrival. She is very good with children 10+.

Currently, without a foster family, Maya is being boarded once again. This is okay during the week since most of the day she's surrounded by people and does have playtimes; however, on weekend she's locked up with very little attention. We do have volunteers that go by and play and visit with her but after hours I imagine she must be very lonely.

Maya has had a rough life but is ready for a new start and she deserves so much more than she's getting right now. She just needs a chance to show what a good dog she is in a home where she can be the only pet. We saved her from death row at MAS but haven't been able to give her the life she should have.
