My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet DIXIE! Dixie is the cutest purebred Weimaraner pup you will ever meet! She was born on November 26th, 2012, so is just 8 months old. She is active, happy and healthy! She has been in foster since she was 10 weeks old, and now it’s time for her to find her forever home.
Dixie came to Mission Weim Rescue when she was returned to her breeder because she wasn’t moving her back legs normally. They exchanged her for a different puppy and discarded Dixie, and the breeder contacted us. We couldn’t be happier, because she is a treasure! Her personality is precious; she is one of the happiest, spunkiest pups we have ever met. We knew right away that what she has is a condition called “Hoppers”, it is a congenital condition that affects a small percentage of Weimaraner pups. It will not affect her health or longevity, it just causes her to HOP when she runs, like a bunny! Also, she will always be on the petite side. At 7 mos, she is just barely 40 pounds, and will likely never be over 50 pounds when full grown. The Hoppers dogs we have seen in the past just tend to be smaller Weims. Her condition was definitively verified through sampling her DNA at UC Davis, so there in no question that she has Hoppers, and no worries that there is anything more serious going on. The reason she stayed in foster so long was so that we could get all of her testing done, which does take a while.
Dixie is being fostered with several other dogs, and gets along very well with dogs of all different ages and sizes. She loves going on car rides and has taken several long distance trips (5 plus hours) already and she is a great traveler. She loves to go the dog park, where she is one of the FASTEST dogs there! Even though she is hopping, she can keep up with all of the other dogs and loves to chase tennis balls, although we are still working on bringing them back!
The perfect home for Dixie will be a home that can spend a LOT of time with her. She is still a puppy, after all, and needs a lot of companionship. A home where one adult stays at home or works from home will be ideal for her. She will not do well, nor will any Weim, left alone for long hours. She would also like to have another dog friend to play with and keep her company. She loves to play! She also loves to SWIM! She would love a family who could take her to the beach or a lake sometime, because she is truly a water dog. She is fearless and has so much fun in the water!
Dixie is housetrained, up to date on vaccines and microchipped, all she needs now is a home to call her own! If you think you can provide the perfect home for Dixie, please send an email to WeimLuvvr@aol.com and ask for an application.
