My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rover is an adorable cuddle bug! He is a young dog just under a year old. His coat is very bright, clean and well-groomed. His eyes are bright and he smiles often. He loves everyone and would make an ideal family pet. He is quiet in the home and well mannered. Rover currently weighs just under 30 lbs.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Rover is the most cuddly animal I have ever met. He loves being near his owner, loves giving and receiving kisses. He adores being petted and cuddled. He attaches to his owner very quickly; he follows me around the house whenever I leave the room he is in! He simply loves being around people; even if I am sitting on the couch and he is laying on the floor, he will get up and come over to me and put his head in my lap and cuddle. He's such a sweetheart. Rover has so much love to give and I know he will make a family extremely happy and lucky to have such a loving and gentle pet. He is very calm and well-behaved; he has never barked/growled at anyone.

Rover is extremely calm around everyone he has met. He is well-behaved and lets everyone pet him. While living with me, Rover has not had contact with small children, so I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm fairly certain he would not be hyper or aggressive around anyone of any age. Rover has never exhibited any aggressive behaviour towards anyone. There are no other pets in my home, but Rover plays well with other dogs at the park.

Rover knows his basic commands and so far has learned "sit", "come", "stay", and "fetch." He is well on his way to being house trained. He rarely has accidents in the house, and when he is in his crate, he always waits until I get home and take him outside to go to the bathroom. He whines to let me know when he needs to be taken outside to use the bathroom. Rover is 100% leash trained. Rover has never tried to escape the yard or bolt out the door. He always waits for me to put his leash on, put my shoes on and open the door for him. Rover lays quietly in the car, doesn't make any noise and doesn't show any car-sickness.

Rover is scared of unfamiliar places. At first he was very reluctant to go for walks even around the block, preferring to stay indoors or in the backyard. Once he gets to know the area, he does show some anxiety around loud vehicles and bicycles. When one passes, he immediately lays down on the sidewalk/grass and doesn't want to continue on our walk right away. He has shown shyness specifically towards males who approach him excitedly or aggressively. He responds equally well to men and women who he meets in a calm setting, but seems to deal with women better when the setting is higher energy. This will require his new family to be patient and continue with his socialization and desensitization to city living.

I think Rover is best suited to live with a family who will make him a part of things and give him the attention he craves. He will love anyone who adopts him as long as they cuddle and feed him. He loves direct contact and often lays beside me on the couch with his head resting in my lap. If you are looking for a dog who will take care of himself and do his own thing, Rover is not for you. If you are at home, he will want to cuddle with you. It's very cute and loveable; any family will fall in love with Rover the very first time they meet him. A quiet-ish home where he won't be left alone but won't constantly be meeting lots of new people in strange settings would best suit him. Rover will be happy living quietly with someone who loves him deeply and cuddles him often.

If you think Rover would be a good addition to your family, please submit an application for consideration.
