My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Most recent update: January 2015

Lola is such a unique and beautiful dog. She appears to be a mix of Catahoula leopard dog and Boxer or greyhound and is approx. 3 years old. Her gorgeous cream and brindle coat is perfect for petting. Lola trots happily at your side on daily walks and loves to play ball, swim and run after critters in the yard. Her prey drive is a little too much for her to live peacefully with cats. She isn't aggressive with them but will chase them which often annoys the cat ; 0 )

Lola is very spry and would probably enjoy agility training, weight pull, etc. She is a bright dog who listens well and is so smart. She is great with people of all ages and also gets along well with other dogs. She does not love it if a lot of dogs come towards her all at once, so a doggy day care or dog park situation would likely be too much for her. She is living with several big dogs in foster. Lola has a friendly, good-natured personality and a happy doggy face that looks like she is smiling at you. She weighs just over 50 lbs.

Lola is a master snuggler and she plays hard but also knows how to flop down and have a great nap! Lola seems happiest with other dogs who can help drain her energy, but is certainly confident enough to be on her own. She also is a sensitive girl and doesn't respond well to raised voices; gentle correction is all she needs.

Lola's perfect home would be with a person who loves to hike in the woods or run along the beach! Lola greets all dogs with a tail wag but is happy to stay with her human for a game of fetch. She loves to play fetch and tug, and will absolutely smother you on the couch, she can not get close enough, a huge snuggler!! Lola is house trained, crate trained, and loves to ride in the car. Her only bad habit is she will occasionally get in the garbage, but is learning to "leave it" when no one is home. She is free to roam the house without being crated. She is an alarm barker when she hears a knock but will warm up to guests quickly. You can play fetch at the beach, and she will stay with you unless you lose the ball, then she will play with a friendly dog, but she will not let you get far away and she comes running!

Did we mention she loves to swim?

Lola's foster mom tells us that she can be nervous with strangers, first putting on a show of barking and insecurity but then she warms up to them quickly, especially if treats are involved. Once she has met someone, Lola loves them for life. Her mom also tells us, "she loves kids! I cannot stress this enough! She LOVES them! She will follw them around giving kisses until they can almost get annoyed! Lola is a very quick learner, very smart! We taught her to use the treadmill in one session and she loves it. She is very responsive to commands. She loves playing fetch, isn't the best at bringing back the ball but that's ok."

Lola’s rather dominant personality is coming out as she gets more comfortable -- she will test out the status of the dogs in her foster family, without success; she lives with four big dogs, and she plays hard and rough with them. She would do great as an only dog or in a home with another balanced dog. She has a lot of will. She has a lot of energy.....plays and plays and plays and then plays some more! She needs lots of exercise, otherwise, she can be destructive in the house (chewed up a dog bed but only ONE time).

She is a great dog with a fun and loving personality but she needs an ACTIVE home.

To apply to adopt this dog, please visit our web site to access our application and learn more about adoption through Lucky Pup Rescue, www.luckypuprescue.org, or request an application via email, luckypuprescue@yahoo.com.

Please note, we do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.

Thank you for considering rescue!

Lola is in foster in southern Maine while she waits to find her perfect forever family!
