My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charlie is 3 year old high energy Shepherd mix/Golden Retriever mix who was saved from a horrible hoarding situation by our great rescue team. He has come such a long way since he was first rescued. Charlie might always have a ‘quirky’ personality because of what he has been through, but he makes progress every day, and has blossomed into a fun-loving dog. Charlie thrives when around other dogs. He loves to wrestle and rough and tumble with dogs in his size range, is very gentle with small dogs, and even does great with cats, horses, goats, and chickens! Although he is a very polite houseguest and can be left alone with no problems, he does like to have the option of his crate. He is also house trained and will politely ask to be let out. He can be a little nervous around men at first, but warms up quickly. He is not particularly food motivated, but will approach strangers if offered a treat. His absolute favorite thing to do is go for walks. He even loves going on runs and makes a perfect hiking or jogging partner! With proper direction, he has wonderful leash manners. He comes when called and knows STAY, WAIT, and NO. He does not have an aggressive bone is his body and is not a barker. He is fine in his comfort zone and likes the routine and the familiar. While Charlie is not an escape-artist, he could be a flight risk if all exits from his familiar environment are not secured or if he is left outside unattended. We have concerns that if Charlie were ever in an unfamiliar situation he would run out of fear. He is fast and would be very hard to catch. For this reason, we recommend a GPS (perhaps martingale) system. Charlie needs a yard and a home with another dog. Please do not apply unless you have both. Charlie is a sweet, loving dog and will make someone a wonderful companion!
