My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted 9/1/13!!!

Dante dazzled the attendees at the Seafood Fest in RI recently. Although he is not a Golden Retriever, he has his own special charm and is certainly a social butterfly. Dante attracted a huge crowd of dog lovers and no one could deny how adorable he is! Dante is especially attracted to children (and their toys)! One toddler, who has a dog at home and loves "doggies," didn't want to leave Dante. He just wanted to stay and pet the "doggie." Our volunteers had to convince the little boy that Dante was going home too so he wouldn't cry. Read more about this extra special boy with the heart of GOLD below!

Dante is a Lab mix and is approximately 10-12 months old. This boy is about 50 pounds of pure love! Dante has arrived in his northern foster home and they tell us he is doing wonderfully! "It only took him a few hours to adjust to the house, dogs, kids, routine, etc. He loves being with/near us and is always watching what we are doing in the kitchen. He's very curious! He got very excited when I showed him the basket of dog toys. He sniffed around the toys until he found the ball of his choice and the whole time his happy tail was wagging. He eats well and slept in the crate all night without a peep. He is such a sweetheart - very loving. Last night he crawled up on my lap and kept crawling up until his head was on my shoulder and his body completely covered mine. He just could not get close enough to me."

Dante is a young boy with a healthy energy level. He loves to run like the wind in the fenced in backyard of his foster home and romp around with his canine foster brother. Dante likes to chase tennis balls and is learning to bring them back. Dante has caught on that a leash means a fun walk and his foster family is working with him on his leash skills. He will make an excellent running buddy for an active adopter. This handsome boy is becoming more acquainted with car rides and settles in nicely. Humans can take food or toys from him without any signs of complaining by Dante.

His foster mom told us, “Dante is just an overall good puppy who is on his way to becoming an awesome companion. He follows his humans around and seeks out their attention. Dante LOVES people and cannot get enough attention. He put his head in your lap every time you sit down and will become your shadow. His tail wags constantly whenever people are around.” Our guess is that this handsome boy grew up with very little attention but he will be a great companion with very little work.

Dante is good with kids, good with other dogs, crate-trained, house-broken, heartworm negative, neutered and ready to go home.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
