My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ADOPT ONLY WITHIN THE STATE OF FLORIDA

Miya is a very young girl who was hit by a car on June 27, 2013 and after her owner determined he could not afford her medical bills for treatment, she was placed with a shelter. We expedited her into our rescue and had her seen by a Veterinary Specialist. She had two fractures of the femur in her left rear leg that involved the growth plate and required immediate surgery. Her leg was fixed on July 3, 2013 and the prognosis is she will make a full recovery.

The surgeon said normal recovery time is approximately 8 weeks, so she will not be available for adoption until at least the beginning of September. In the interim, the tricky part will be keeping this young Husky calm and on restricted activity for over two months, especially since she will be living with two healthy, frisky siblings. She is a sweet little girl and wants so badly to play, even though it hurts.

Many of the pictures in her Youtube video above show her crated or fenced in, which is nothing more than our effort to keep her quiet and calm so her bones set properly. She is accepting of the situation but it is obvious how much she wants to be up and about. She is not destructive in any way so once she is well we anticipate that she will, like most Huskies, not need a crate.

Miya has had obedience training and knows the sit, down, paw, and stay commands. She’s a very vocal girl, especially at dinner time and when she is trying to instigate play. It is hard for her to understand why she cannot participate but indicative of how playful and energetic she will be when she’s healed. She is handling a tough situation well, testimony to the typical Husky grit and determination.

She enjoys being the center of attention and will also let you know if she feels she is getting left out or left behind. Miya gets very happy when her foster mom goes into the pen with her to give her hugs and attention. She will pick up a toy, climb in and out of her foster mom’s lap shaking it in her mouth; then she will set it down and try to get her mom to grab it and play with her.

Miya is otherwise healthy, Heartworm negative, spayed, somewhat housebroken, microchipped and up-to-date on shots. This youngster is going to make someone, or some family, very happy. She just exudes fun and affection. Make her yours by filling out an adoption application on our web site, www.siberrescue.com, today.
