My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bio Update 8-13-2013 : Riley is a 1-1/2 year old, 7.7 lb. Yorkie boy. He has been in foster care in Grapevine, TX for a month now. He is such a sweet, loving, handsome little guy. He would probably do best in a home where someone is home most of the time. He gets along well with female dogs, but is very intimidated by males. He is housebroken, but he is still timid about coming when called. We are trying to work on that. He is also still learning to walk on a leash. He will need someone with patience to train him and continue to work on his socialization. Here is what he has to say: Hi everybody! I wanted to let you know how my life has changed! First of all I am now an “inside” dog. That means that I get to sleep in a soft warm bed and I get to take my naps on my own bed or better yet curled up next to my foster mom. FM says I am like her little shadow as I like to be right with her whether she is doing things around the house, yard or just sitting watching TV. I love to lay in her lap like a baby and get my tummy rubbed. I am having a little trouble warming up to other people, but it is because in the past people haven’t been very nice to me and it will just take a little while to trust again. I have learned to do all my business outside, yessiree, no accidents for me, and you know how important that is! I love my foster family, but I sure would like to have my own forever home! If you think I would be a good fit drop my fm a note!

Initial Bio 7/19/13: Riley is an adorable little boy yorkie that is being fostered in Grapevine, TX. He is 1-1/2 years old and he weighs 7.7 pounds. He has a sad background, but UYR is determined to change all that. His original owner didn't want to spend the time housetraining him so they kept him in the backyard. When they decided to move, they were going to take him to the pound or put him to sleep. A nice lady offered to take him, but she also kept him in a pen in the backyard. He has never been socialized so he wouldn't come to her and when she tried to pick him up, he snapped at her. He snapped because he was in pain! He had a wire that was wrapped up in his coat that was stabbing him. Evidently when she tried to pick him up she was pushing the wire and didn't realize it.

UYR picked him up and promptly took him to be groomed, and that is where the kind groomer discovered the wire. Since then he has been the sweetest little guy. It is true he is not socialized, and doesn't know to come when he is called, but each day he becomes more friendly. The first day if you touched him or petted him, he just froze. But now if you are sitting on the couch he will get up beside you and let you pet him.

We are working on the housetraining and he is doing pretty well with that. He will go when you take him out if he needs to, but he doesn't know to tell you he needs to go. That being said he seems to be able to hold it for several hours (3-4) without having an accident.

He will need to be neutered and have his teeth cleaned before he can be adopted.

Stay tuned as we get to know him better!
