My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Egbert and I am a 25 yr old Red Lored Amazon. My Momma, who I loved very much, had to give me up because she was diagnosed with leukemia and was not doing very well. I was very sad because I had to stay boarded at the vets for several weeks while my Momma was sick, and then finally FPR found out about me and my very own foster mom came to get me. She took me to see Momma so we could say goodbye, it was very, very sad for both of us. My foster mom took me to be vetted and see what the status was for the thyroid problem for which I had previously been diagnosed. After all the tests came back, it turns out I am cured! There was a little problem with low calcium, but with a shot and a new diet, I am feeling much better. The doc gave me a great pedicure and wing clip. See how handsome I am? BTW, they don't know for sure what sex I am, so let us keep that a secret, OK?
My foster mom is trying to make me eat pellets and vegetables and fruit! YUK! Although I do kinda like the mixed pellets, I am showing her how repulsive, I think the vegetables are no matter how she prepares them. If she puts in a few sunflower seeds, I will pick them out being very careful to not get any of those yucky veggies on my beak. Sometimes when she puts extra watermelon on my skewer I will eat a little of that, but do not want her to think she is making any progress. Those shelled almonds are great though - hope she does not think to put them in with those yucky foods because I might have to try them just to get to those great almonds!
I do NOT like going into a shower, but will tolerate being sprayed with the water bottle. Maybe someday I will like it if my foster mom keeps trying. Do not want to make things too easy for her though!
My cage is so loaded with toys that I do not play with you would think they would get the hint – I do not know, maybe one day I will try them. I like sitting on top of my cage and going in and out when I want. I know the "step up" command but I fool her all the time and will not do it just because she tries it. She keeps telling me we are working to make that better too, but then she sticks in those yucky veggies and I rebel. Some people thought I was playing fetch when I would throw out two of my foot toys. Silly people, I was in attack mode. My other mommy also let me attack empty prescription bottles. Well, my foster mom found out quick that you do not have a script bottle in your hand and me on the other. Now she has taken away the two toys and the bottle and I am so happy I never try to bite. Especially when she gives me head scritches! I LOVE those head scritches now!!!
Just in case you are wondering - I don't talk much. I can make sounds like a cat (meow), say “Hello” and I really love to whistle. Whistling is what I love to do the most, but I am not loud with any of the noises I make. I also like to whistle along with classical music! With a little more time, I think I can have my foster mom trained the way I want, but she is persistent with the veggies and fruit and step-up, step-down. Maybe you could come adopt me and I can train you! That would be really fun!
