Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is the story of Ike told by his foster mom:
Ike is a sweet, sweet Husky about 6 years old (to the best of our knowledge). Vet checked and met with a behavior specialist , he is a young dog in an older body. He's healthy and has NO joint issues. He loves outside and is intensely loyal to his humans. Ike was born on a farm and literally left to his own devices. Taken in by two neighbors, he was so very happy. They lost their home and were forced to move to a small place that does not allow pets. We agreed to foster Ike - and love him dearly. Unfortunately his Husky high-prey instinct has not worked with the rescue cats on our farm. He loves humans very deeply and is quite loyal, especially to a single woman. He will silently walk up to you and sit down, and lift his paw and gently place it on your leg. He doesn't demand attention, he patiently waits for it. Ike had a brother, Mike who was his running buddy as a pup. Mike was killed on the country road in front of his birth home. Ike stayed by his body for three days. He mourned the loss, but that 'buddy' attitude has served him well. He has shown no aggression to other dogs, integrating well and playing his part in the pack. He associates cars with something bad (of course he would - he saw one kill his brother) - but I'm working with a crate that can go with him. We will get him in the crate and load it in the vehicle for delivery. Ike likes to be outside, loves shade and has a fan he sits in front of. For the first time ever since May, he tried to come inside this week. This is a big improvement because he has always been an outside dog. He is feeling more loved and comfortable. He is a gentle taker of treats. He has never even had on a collar, so training is foreign to him. This said, he has been learning sit, stay, heel - using a chain leash used as a choke collar. Quick gentle correction and a soft voice and a loose collar pressure work best on him. Love him - and he would die for you. Best case? A woman who lives in the country with no cats. He would probably be house-trained easily and become a couch potato if he were the only dog. Patience is key with lots of love, for Ike. ADOPTION FEE REQUIRED.
