Arrival story: Maggie was surrendered to a shelter north of Traverse City when her owners moved into assisted living. She had some hair loss and ear infections that were treated at the shelter.
Personality: Maggie is an adorable dog and will make a great, cuddly companion! Her sweet brown eyes will melt your heart when she gazes up at you! This girl loves to cuddle, go for walks and play with purple toys. She had a quiet life with her previous owners, so she’s acclimating to a more active home now. Maggie knows “sit” and is in school learning other “good doggie” behavior. She’s smart and learns fast! She is working on leash manners and currently uses a harness for walks.
Maggie has been around toddlers and school age children and she likes both, but she may not tolerate busy young children since she didn’t grow up with them. She gets along with other dogs but she would really prefer a quieter home as the only dog or another laid back pooch.
Cocker Spaniels are prone to ear infections, and Maggie has been treated for an infection. Dogs with long ears like Maggie need their ears checked regularly. We don’t know what caused her hair loss, but it may have been diet, so she is now on a grain free food. Maggie will need to be groomed a few times a year. While being brushed or having her nails clipped are not her favorite thing, she tolerates it. Maggie will alert you to approaching people outside her home or yard.
Forever home: Maggie would fit into many home situations. We think that she is best suited to a home with older children/adults. She would love to continue obedience training.

Different adoption fees apply for older dogs, small breeds and puppies - $125 for senior dogs, $275 for small breed dogs and $250 for puppies, plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. To meet a dog in person, please see our event calendar for the latest information. Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
