Boston is a 15 lb. Dachshund/Beagle mix who was abandoned by his owner, while boarding at the vet’s. He is not quite age two. Boston lived at the kind vet’s for 5 months but caged boarding is not a good long-term accommodation for any dog, so Boston was “rescued” by Angel’s Heart. Boston is a sweet and loving dog who loves to hang out with you, and play with any other dog who is up for it, be it male or female, a bigger dog, or a dog his own size. He will also play chase with the ball and bring it back to you, and he also LOVES toys! (he is not destructive; he limits his destruction to toys alone).

Boston is potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment), crate-trained, does not mark in the house, and has learned the dog door. He enjoys a rawhide chew in his crate at bedtime, or chewing on various toys. He is a MASTER walker on the leash. One of the things that I really love about Boston is that he is responsive to being called, responsive to correction and instructions, and overall is very obedient. Boston can be active one minute (he’s quite playful and really loves toys!) and be chilling the next. His best fit is clearly a home with another dog to play with him, and a yard where the two dogs can run around and play, explore, and also whereby the people are not gone for long periods of time. If you are looking for a playmate for your already existing dog, trust me, Boston is your guy! In his current foster home, Boston’s best playmate is a 50 lb. male Boxer mix. They really love each other! He also currently lives with three cats, and though not a “cat killer” I wouldn’t go as far as to say that a cat can replace a dog as Boston’s main pal.

Boston has an imperfection, but the purpose of rescue is to give a dog a chance who would otherwise not have that chance. Please don’t pass Boston by and keep reading!: Boston has a genetic hair condition called Color Dilution Alopecia and simply put, it just means that the individual hairs don’t grow normally at the follicle (his coat is sparse, but his beautiful blue color remains). A plus about this is that there’s not much shedding, if any at all. This condition is common in dogs with the blue coloring, such as the blue Doberman or blue Pit Bull. Boston has seen a specialist, and there is nothing internally wrong with Boston. There is no need for treatment or cost involved to the adopter. You simply bathe the dog with a medicated shampoo occasionally, to keep his skin clean (he has a lesser coat for protection), and put on cute T-shirts when going out for longer periods in the sun, and a sweater when it’s cold! And Boston is so good and easy to bathe!

We at Angel’s Heart agree that anyone willing to adopt Boston is grand in our eyes. But based on how we see Boston, he very much wants, needs, and does best with an “in-home” canine pal. I am hoping and wishing for a loving and understanding person to come along to give Boston a chance at a forever home. He is an affectionate dog who once he gets to know you, (all it takes is to be bribed by a few treats!) he will become your best pal! Boston is neutered, fully vaccinated, a fecal test done, de-wormed, heartworm tested, blood tests run, and micro-chipped. If interested in Boston, you may contact Janet Cook of the Angel’s Heart Dog Rescue at: adopt@angelsheartdogrescue.com. He is a wonderful, happy pup!
