Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kisa: A Loving Mother to All By Laura Bruck
People call it instinct when a cat cares for kittens that aren’t her own, but I’m certain it goes far deeper. Not all animals (or humans) are “instinctively” good parents to their own offspring, let alone to someone else’s, and when I heard about Kisa and her capacity for the purest and most selfless form of love, it touched me in a way that’s difficult to describe. If anyone ever deserved a happily-ever-after, it’s this loving and devoted 4-year-old tabby.
Kisa was barely surviving when she was found living inside a garage wall, trying desperately to keep her four newborn kittens alive. She was only 9 months old, but Kisa had already lived a lifetime of pain, loneliness and hardship. Sadly, two of Kisa’s kittens didn’t survive. But for the devoted mom and her remaining two offspring, everything changed when they were rescued by PAWS and placed in a loving foster home. Until that day Kisa had never experienced human kindness, and she thanked foster mom Jenn for every show of affection with soft, grateful mews.
Only hours after Kisa’s rescue Jenn took in a 2-day-old orphaned kitten, and feared the worst when little Momiji refused to bottle feed. As she nursed her own two kittens, Kisa heard Momiji’s cries from across the room and rolled onto her side to invite the tiny newborn to join her family. Kisa now had two of her own little ones and one adopted kitten, but her motherly duties were far from over. When Jenn arrived home with yet another orphaned newborn, Kisa welcomed tiny Haru into the fold just as eagerly as she did Momiji. “Kisa seemed happier with each addition,” said Jenn, who now believes these two orphans somehow filled the void left by the death of Kisa’s own two kittens.
Kisa’s kittens are grown now, and the empty-nester now has time to pursue some other new-found passions, such as playing with catnip and using endearingly squeaky “cat-speak” to coax Jenn to give her gentle scratches. Each night Kisa quietly jumps into bed and snuggles against Jenn’s feet and, when the mood strikes, she follows her foster mom through the house like a dutiful little shadow.
Kisa’s life today is a far cry from her humble beginnings but, because of her rough start, she’s still working through some fears. She would do well as an only pet or with other cats (no dogs, please), and needs a peaceful home with someone who understands that her initial shyness will melt away to reveal a loving and loyal companion. This sweet, timid and nurturing little lady always has put family first. What she needs now is someone who will do the same for her.
