My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful lady is called “Maeve.” She is a 3 year old 14-15lb biggy iggy. During the first few years of her life, Maeve didn’t have many good experiences with people. Her foster home is working on introducing her to love, kindness, and those good experiences but she is still afraid and not quite ready to trust yet.

Maeve enjoys napping with the other iggies in her foster home but any time her foster mom moves she has to get up and watch her. No relaxing when people are moving around just yet- that will come with lots of patience and TLC. Maeve goes out the back door with the rest of the pack but the back door must be propped open with no one near it for her to feel safe enough to come inside. Maeve is a smart little lady though. She has learned that “Crate time” means 'Go get into your crate,' “Let’s go out” means 'head for the back door' and “dinner time” means 'Go get in your crate to eat.' She will even angle herself in the crate so it is easy to put a leash on her.

Maeve is showing slow progress which is very promising. Although we are hopeful she will learn to trust humans unconditionally with time, we cannot guarantee that she will ever be an iggy that wants to be constantly in your lap. Maeve is not ready for adoption into most homes, however if you have experience working with dogs that have had a rough start in life and fear of people we would love to talk to you. A best forever home placement for her would also include a confident and well adjusted canine friend and no small children.
