American Staffordshire Terrier Mix Dog for adption in Elmsford, New York - Cindy

Cindy's Info...

I am already spayed, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.

Cindy's Story...
Born in 2006, CINDY is a spayed AmStaff terrier mix. She is an incredibly loving dog who came to us as a stray. We found out quickly that she is completely deaf but responds readily to simple hand signals. She's mastered “sit” and “down” and is now in the process of learning appropriate leash mannerisms. Cindy is overly enthusiastic about everyone and everything. The high jump is her greeting of choice. She relishes long walks and can just as easily spend hours lounging in the kiddy pool. This happy girl is a dynamo of energy and would do best in a household of adults with previous experience and lots of patience. As she is a resource guarder of both food and toys, Cindy would not mix well with young kids and/or multiple pets. She does, however, enjoy roughhousing with her shelter pals, so play dates with other dogs would probably be fine.

About Pets Alive Westchester

About Our Rescue Group...

Pets Alive Westchester is a no-kill animal shelter. Our mission is to improve the lives of companion animals everywhere by any means possible, including rescue, adoption, advocacy, collaboration, intervention and education.

We care for dogs, cats and rabbits at our sanctuary in Elmsford, NY. Many of the animals at Pets Alive Westchester are older, have special needs or require special care.

Pets Alive Westchester is one of the oldest no-kill organizations in the United States - we are over 80 years old and are recognized within the local community, nationwide and around the world, as a leader in developing alliances to end the killing of adoptable animals and promoting the humane treatment of animals.

Come Meet Our Pets...

It is strongly suggested that you fill-out and submit your adoption application online. We will check your references and get back to you within 24 hours. Alternatively, you may fill-out and submit an application at our facility. We will make every effort to approve your application while you wait, but can only do so if all your references are available at that time.

When it comes to choosing an animal, remember that sometimes the cutest animal on the page may NOT suit your family life! Our Adoption Counselor will help you choose an animal that suits your family and activity level. Please note that everyone in your household must be present at the time of adoption, and that includes any dogs you currently have.

Thanks for wanting to offer a home to a shelter animal, we hope you will fill out an application today!

What's Included:

Your new pet has been spayed/neutered, is up-to-date on shots, and is microchipped. You get one free vet visit within 7 days of your adoption. You also get a discount on your next purchase at Petco when you show them the Pets Alive Westchester adoption agreement at checkout.

There is an adoption fee for ALL animals:

Cats are $100, kittens are $125, senior cats (over 10) are $50.

The adoption donation for dogs start at $100 for seniors (over 7), $200 for adult dogs and dogs who have been here for more than one year, $300 for young dogs and specialty breeds, and $350 for toy breeds.

Rabbits are $50.

We charge an adoption fee to prevent people from getting "free" animals and selling them to labs or pit bull rings. We also charge a fee to try to offset some of our costs.

Believe us - the adoption fees do not come CLOSE to the expense of treating, medicating, housing, feeding and providing care for these animals. It costs us $125 to spay and neuter an animal, $20 to microchip them, $30 to get them up to date on all shots, $15 to treat them for fleas/ticks, $30 to treat them for worms, and $40 to test them for parvo (or FIV/FeLV if a cat). If you did all that at the vet, your costs would be triple ours.

Our Adoption Process...

Prospective adopters must complete a pre-adoption application, supplying personal and/or veterinary references. There will be an interview between the adopter and the adoption counselor to ensure the best match between family and pet. All members of the adopting household should be present to meet the new prospective household member. Processing usually takes two business days. The nominal adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming, FIV/FeLV testing for cats, spaying or neutering and an office visit at one of a number of participating clinics in the area. Animals under 6 months require a deposit to ensure their return at 6 months to be spayed or neutered.

Remember that dog and cat adoption saves lives! Please consider a shelter animal before you buy a pet from a breeder or pet store.
