My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Bixby. I am currently living with a foster family. I had quite an
adjustment to go through from where I was to where I am now. It all started
around January of last year. I lived with a man and loved him very much and had
lived with him for a long, long time. Last January he go sick and went away
forever. His family decided to keep me until his estate (whatever the heck that
is!) was settled. They did not love me though really. They fed me and gave me
water but they kept me locked up inside the house that I lived with my man in.
I was kept there with my "sister" for about 8 months. Just the two of us.
Then, once the estate was settled, his family decided that they did not want to
take care of us and were going to have us taken to a high kill shelter. Well,
my man left some stuff to the Humane Society so they found out about us and
would not let me and my sister go to that shelter. They knew our man loved us.
So, that brings me to my foster family. My sister was with me here for a while
but now she has a forever home and is loving it! I want that too. Both me and
my sister were wrecks when we came here. Neither one of us would go outside on
our own. We just couldn't do it - it had become scary. Now, I LOVE going
outside and playing and exploring. There is some cool stuff outside that I had
forgotten all about! Lots of room to run too!! When I first came to my foster
family I was not sure what was going on. I did not like to be touched. I felt
like something bad was going to happen. I panted and scratched all the time! I
didn't have fleas, I wasn't hot. I was scared. My foster mom decided to try to
help me out with some medicine to help me calm down. I have been taken that for
about a month now - I LOVE IT!! I love it because I get it in a piece of chees
every morning!! Yay for cheese!! I am not panting or scratching as much. I
don't jump at the slightest touch. I lay down and close my eyes and actually
rest now. My foster mom does not know if I will always need the medicine or not
but she plans on having me take it until I get settled with my forever family
(which I hope will be soon!!). I am a sweetheart. Everyone says so. I used to
shy away from everyone, now I like for people to talk to me and love on me!
That feels so good!! Who knew?? Last night my foster mom was sitting there
watching TV and I kept bugging her. She let me out. I came right back to come
inside. I kept bugging her. She got me food. I already HAD food! I kept
bugging her. Finally she got down on the floor a PLAYED with me! She rubbed me
all over and jumped at me and we played. Took me a while to train her, but I
knew I could!!

I am about six years old and a shepherd/husky mix. I have a sweet temperament.
I get along with dogs and cats (Okay, sometimes I HAVE to bark at the cat. I am
a dog, that's allowed.). I am eager to make you happy. I don't have a mean
bone in my body - period. I have been spayed (thank goodness!) and have had all
of my shots and even have a microchip!! I am house trained (I wasn't at first
because after 8 months I had gotten used to not going outside - now I MAKE my
foster people let me out!!)

I promise I will be a good girl. Oh, and by the way, I LOVE CAR RIDES!! They
are my FAVORITE! We can go everywhere together!! Let's do it!!
