Here's what the humans have to say about me:
"Charlie" is a friendly, happy 6-7 yo neutered male GSD/Chow mix. (A vet estimated Charlie's age at 5 yrs as his teeth look great, but I'm estimating a year or two older.) Don't let the Chow in Charlie's DNA mislead you--Charlie is very easy-going with people and other dogs--he's definitely a lover, not a fighter! In fact, when I evaluated Charlie at GSRSV's facility, one of my alpha dogs tried to mount Charlie and he didn't even growl. He's also good w/ the 10-lb terrier he lives with who is always trying to get Charlie to play. Charlie has not been inside with cats, but he doesn't chase stray cats, so he might be OK with them. Charlie is a medium-sized dog, and weighs approx 75 lbs.
Charlie is housetrained, though he is primarily kept outside at the property he is presently at. He is not used to walking on a leash, but stays very close off-leash and would probably take well to walking on-leash if given the chance.
Charlie has a somewhat sad past, but his present and future are very bright. Charlie belonged to a man who used to routinely let him and his other dog run loose in his Stockton neighborhood. About a month ago Charlie's owner moved out of his house and simply turned Charlie loose. When Susan, the woman who has Charlie now, found Charlie and realized that his owner was gone, she took him in to her place, where he joined three other dogs. Susan doesn't want to take Charlie on permanently, but is determined to keep him out of the shelter and will foster him until she and the rescue groups she's working with can find him a new home.
GSRSV has evaluated Charlie and is placing him as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is seeking a new home for Charlie through its adoption program while his caretaker continues to care for him. Charlie's adoption fee is $150.
