My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ava, a 3 year old, happy go lucky girl who wants to be your best pal. She weighs 75 pounds and thinks she’s the perfect size for your lap, even though she’s a little too big for that.

Ava is a licker and a kisser and always has a smile on her face. Belly rubs are always welcome, too. She is full of the wiggles and wags her tail with great enthusiasm. This has led to a case of “happy tail” where the tip of her tail has been injured from thwacking walls and furniture too hard. Her tail is healing nicely and once it’s all better, it will likely remain that way. We think the medication she was taking during heartworm treatment gave her tail some extra oomph!

Ava has impeccable house manners. Upon arrival in her foster home she swiftly oriented herself to the water bowl, back door, crate, dog bed and food. Ava fits right in with her two foster sisters and plays just enough to have some fun. She will sleep on her doggy bed, but would love to sleep with you on your bed, if you let her charm you into it!

Ava is mostly quiet, but knows when to use her voice. She has a bark that would make a solicitor think twice. Ava is very attentive and eager to please.

Ava’s energy level is moderate. She will greet you with gusto when you get home and she may even jump or become mouthy. Once the excitement of people coming home is over, she settles down easily. Ava is crate trained and crates up whenever she’s asked. She does very well on a leash and really wants to walk and explore. Ava would make a great walking buddy. Ava rides wonderfully in the car and sits quietly in the back seat.

She gets along with other dogs, but she would be just as happy as an only dog. Since she doesn't realize her size, Ava might be too much for small children. Kids ages 10 and up would be a better match for her. Homes with cats should probably look for a different Lab. Ava is fascinated with the kitties in her foster home... maybe a little bit too fascinated ;-)
