My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 8/29/13: Coco Chanel is recovery quite nicely after her recent amputation. She does not seem to be in pain, and is running around like a little pro. Her appetite is good, and she is enjoying her bones. We fully expect her to make a successful recovery. If you are interested in adopting her, please fill out an application.

UPDATE 8/27/13: Coco Chanel had her leg successfully amputated yesterday. She is still at the vets and on a narcotic IV drip for another day. She is scheduled to come home Wednesday. Please keep her in your thoughts.

UPDATED BIO 08/22/2013 - Coco Chanel is a 5 year old 4 lb yorkie girlie who is being fostered in West Palm Beach, FL. She has a bad rear leg that we had operated on to fix, however, unfortunately, the surgery was not a success, so we now have to amputate it. Don't feel bad for her though, she already walks mainly on 3 legs, so the transition for her should not be to great. Her surgery is scheduled for Monday, August 26th, please keep her in your thoughts.

In anticipation of the upcoming surgery, she went to the beauty salon and got her hair and nails done. The groomer was very impressed over what a good little girl she was!

Coco went to the dogtor the other day. Unfortunately, the dogtor was disappointed in the results of Coco's surgery. The surgery to repair her leg and help her to walk on it normally was not successful. We were aware that the surgery was not guaranteed, but were hoping it would help her to walk on all 4 legs. Since we really do not know what the cause of her injury is, the rescue has decided the best course if action is to amputate her leg. She already walks on 3 legs, so the transition for her should be fairly smooth. She will have the surgery at the end of August, and depending on her recovery should be available after the third week or so in September.

Coco was rescued from a high- kill shelter. In that shelter, it was determined that she had no use of one of her rear legs. It turns out she had a deformity within her achilles tendon. UYR tried the best they could to have this corrected, and enlisted the help of one of the top veterinary surgeons in South Florida. Unfortunately, the surgery was not a success, and Coco will lose her leg.

Now, don't be too sad for Coco. She actually doesn't use that leg, and has learned to maneuver around with 3 legs; she has been doing it her whole life. She is a lover and a sweetheart of a dog. Don't call this little princess disabled ~ she simply gets around differently than other dogs. She

walks, runs, plays, etc. just like a dog with 4 legs would do :) She is a happy little girl and is back on the adoption page, still "looking for love". Thanks for reading about her!

UPDATE 07/19/2013: Coco recently got her final cast off, yippee! However, we are unsure as to whether or not the surgery was a success as she is still not using her leg as much as anticipated. The dogtor stated that with this kind of surgery, healing can take a very long time. She is scheduled to go back to see him the beginning of August, so we will know more after then.

UPDATE 06/18/2013 - Coco went to the dogtor today and got new x-rays and a new purple cast - but now she has a soft one! She finally learned to walk with the heavy, hard casts, and now she has to relearn to walk again without tipping over (she's overcompensating for the weight of the new one). The dogtor said her x-rays were perfect and she was healing up on schedule. She has another appointment in two weeks, and we hope that this cast will come off and she will not need anymore casts - cross you paws for her, please!

Hi everypuppy! Coco Chanel here. I recently had surgery to repair my Achilles and luxating patella. I was also spayed and I had my teeth cleaned.

I am doing great! I am now on my 3rd cast and walk around like an old pro. This coming Tuesday, June 18th, the hard cast will be coming off for good, but then I am getting a soft cast which I will have to have on for 2 or 3 weeks. After that, well, I'm not sure, the dogtor said he would let me know, so we'll see, but I am sure looking forward to being able to use this "new" leg of mine!

UPDATE 05/28/2013: UYR is no longer accepting applications for Coco Chanel. She has been a very popular little girlie. We appreciate everyone's interest and she is doing great in her recovery after corrective surgery. Thanks to everyone who donated towards the high costs of the surgery which will allow this little princess to live a normal life and walk much better than previously.

Hi everypuppy! Coco Chanel here. I recently had surgery to repair my Achilles and luxating patella. I was also spayed and I had my teeth cleaned. Yup, I got the full package. Even though I had a huge surgery, I will tell you that I feel pretty good! I have a dogtors appointment coming up very soon and I hope he is able to see how well I'm doing. I hope he tells me that I will be able to run & walk 100% normal. Paws crosseId for that!!

Have you all seen my video? (I'll link it below.) This was me right after surgery. I was anxious to start walking around all over the place. Don't I look fabulous?! My hair is finally growing out and I've gained a little weight. I think I've come a long way since UYR saved me. Don't you? I've still got a long road ahead of me. My big surgery requires a long healing process but I'm looking forward to it. Nothing but positive vibes here! Please consider donating a few dollars to my care. My surgery was really expensive and without you, they wouldn't have been able to help me or be able help other yorkies. UYR really love me and worked hard to get me healthy. I'm very thankful for them.
