My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Good with cats, male dogs and non-alpha females, respectful children over the age of 12, spayed, well trained, housetrained

Shadow is a 13-year-young female chow. She is spayed and up-to-date on all vaccines. She was taken in from a homeless man who realized he could no longer properly care for her as she aged. Since Shadow spent most of her life on the streets without a lot of stability, she can be stressed in some situations that are too high-energy. She may not be a young pup, but she is still active and loves going for short walks and also loves being outdoors. Shadow is very affectionate with people and enjoys pets and belly rubs. She really is a “people dog”. She's definitely not a "yard dog" and wants to be wherever you are. She gets along perfectly with cats and almost all dogs, the exception being yappy, bossy female dogs. She would love to be in a home with a calmer male dog or two. Shadow's only pressing health concern is arthritis that is well managed by inexpensive medication. She is allergic to grain, so she has to remain on a grain-free diet. She takes treats very well (and loves them!), and knows "sit", "lay down", "come", and walks well on a leash.

Being part (or perhaps all) chow, she needs regular brushing and grooming to make sure her coat stays beautiful and free of mats.

Shadow's ideal home would be a single person, couple, or family with older, respectful children, with 1-2 low energy companion animals. She would also do fine in a no-pet household. A family member that was home most of the day would be optimal for her. Shadow does have trouble getting up and down stairs, so no stairs please. She really deserves to be someone's best friend and be spoiled for her golden years.
