Ghost's Story...
Ghost came to us from a "free roaming" hoarding situation near Mina. We are guessing on her breed, but are pretty sure she is a coyote hybrid. When Ghost is excited, she does "coyote chatter" and her coat has a rough texture.

Ghost is about two three years old and had very little early socialization. Ghost was trapped at the property where the dogs were located and taken to the local shelter. She would cower in her kennel and snap at anyone that came near her. One expert deemed her "beyond redemption". Ghost continued her shy ways when she first came to Safe Haven. With the help of Coyote Boy, though, she learned to trust people. Today she is a smiling girl who adores "her people".

Ghost walks well on a leash and will sit for treats (but watch your fingers!). With a familiar handler, she can go out off lead. She loves to run through the sagebrush. She comes back often to check in, but then streaks off again

Ghost still has lots of learning to do. She needs an experienced owner who is willing to continue with her training and socialization. Patience and a soft approach are a must. Ghost will melt if reprimanded harshly, but is eager to please with encouragement.

  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a YERINGTON breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in YERINGTON paves the way for another one to be saved.
