Louie's Story...
SAFE Class XV is in session! With the graduation of this class on October 25, 2013, SAFE will have graduated and found homes for 100 dogs! Inmate handlers will work with their assigned dogs for two months, in which time, the dogs will be crate trained, house trained, able to walk on a loose leash, taught basic manners and commands, socialized, and taught some entertaining tricks. The dogs are heartworm negative, neutered, on flea/tick/heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations, and fully vetted. You may go to safehavenky@gmail.com to request an application, which may be emailed back or sent to SAFE Haven KY, P.O. Box 401, Princeton, KY 42445. The deadline for applying for a SAFE dog is October 10. All applicants will be notified by October 17 whether or not you were chosen to receive a dog.

Louie is a three to four year old, 29 pound Terrier mix, who is overcoming a lot. He came from a shelter and before that, he was almost feral and very mistrustful of everyone and everythiing. Workers at the shelter were unable to get close enough to him (because of his unease; he didn't snap or bite) to tell his sex, so he was called Lucy. When SAFE took him to the vet, it was found that he was heartworm positive and a boy. Many generous donations were made for his treatment and he is doing well. He will make a full recovery. He is making progress everyday and promises to be a great pet.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Louie, a Princeton Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) for sale in Princeton, or seeking a Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) dog from a breeder in Princeton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Princeton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Princeton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) breeders who help with Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Princeton paves the way for another one to be saved.
