My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Sampson" is a magnificent, approx 3-yo neutered male White GSD who is playful, friendly and well-behaved. Sampson is friendly with strangers and will likely do well w/ children as he has a gentle side to him, including the way he takes treats softly from hand. Sampson gets along great w/ the dogs at the GSRSV facility, though he occasionally will get a little rough when chasing hyperactive dogs. I wouldn't rule Sampson out of dog park activities, but you'd have to keep an eye on him. Fortunately, Sampson is very responsive to voice commands, so a sharp "No!" from me is all it takes for him to ease up. Cats, however, are out of the question for this big dog. And big he is: approx 80 lbs, with a massive head and long legs.

Sampson is completely housetrained and likes to sleep on my bed. He loves to be petted, but is not pushy about seeking attention. I have yet to have Sampson on leash, but the evaluator at the shelter he came from stated that he would get very excited when he saw the leash, so clearly he has had experience with on-leash walks. He does have good recall off-leash. Sampson loves to play with toys, and will return toys or balls to you so you can throw them for him again. He also likes water, and has learned to enjoy "attacking" the water stream from a hose.

Sampson was picked up as a stray in Woodland on July 23 and brought to the Yolo County animal shelter. His owner did not come forward for him, so he was evaluated for adoption. Though he passed the shelter's adoption evaluation, the evaluator for the Yolo County SPCA--the adoption arm of the shelter--failed him for adoption due primarily to Sampson's lunging and barking at dogs who passed by his kennel (typical of GSDs in shelter environments). Sampson was rescued on 8-15-13.

Sampson's adoption fee is $250.
