My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! Do you all remember Radar O’Reilly from MASH? He was kind and gentle, smart and funny, and maybe just a little shy and naïve? Well, I am Radar, and I am named after him for good reason! I am kind and gentle, smart and funny, and just a little shy and naïve! Like Radar in the TV show, I am your go-to guy! If you need something, I’ll do my best to search and find it! My nose never stops working! I’ll be your loyal friend for life, and won’t ask for much in return!

I had a pretty rough time lately, I was in a cold hard shelter in Indiana, and was found to be heartworm positive. I went through the tough treatment to get rid of them, and am as good as new now! I just need to have a Heartgard tablet once a month from now on so they don’t ever, ever come back! I went from Indiana, to Illinois, and am back in Indiana now, so it’s kind of hard not knowing where my forever home will be. I settle in pretty quickly, though, and I bet it won’t take long until I’m confident with my new forever home and family.

I sleep in my crate at night without a peep, although I usually need a bedtime snack to coax me in to it. The couch is just soooo comfy that I don’t want to leave it! That big bed also looks pretty comfy, but foster mom says it’s best if I sleep in the crate for now. I had a few accidents the first 4 days in my foster home, but for the most part I am housetrained, and just had to get used to the new routine when I moved in. Foster mom has left me out of the crate when she is gone, and although I whine a little and run from window to window, I haven’t pottied in the house or chewed up anything!

I love little kids, and perk up and try to greet them whenever I see them in the neighborhood or out for walks. I don’t even mind when the little ones grab my ears and tail! I just love the attention. I’ve been afraid to approach the cats I’ve met; I’m just not sure about them! Mostly I take an “I won’t bother you if you won’t bother me” approach. But I love meeting new dogs, and love to play chase with them when I get the chance. I also love to snuggle next to you on the couch at night.

Like Radar O’Reilly, I have a few funny little quirks, too! Foster mom has a bathtub with a tiled edge, and I love to walk round and round the edge, then climb in the tub and wait until she is done and we go back downstairs! Sometimes I catch a scent of something, and I just go and go and go in search of it- indoors or out, it doesn’t matter! Sometimes I search with my nose straight up in the air like a radar! I’m not going to stop until I find it (or until I get distracted by something else).

So, if you are looking for a star entertainer, Radar O’Reilly is the man for you! I’m just active enough, and just snuggly enough, and just funny enough, and just calm enough to be the perfect pet! You don’t even have to live in Ottumwa Iowa to take me home forever!!
