My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

First of all, let me clear up some confusion. When my foster mama got me, she was told my name was Cooper. Since she had just had a Cooper, I became Cooper II. BUT then she heard that my rabies certificate said Orson. Orson? Really? So, now my bio has to say Orson, but I prefer Coop; just don't tell anyone! Mom and Dad also think I might be part basset hound, so this name thing is getting to be a problem. Did you know that beagle/basset mixes are sometimes called bagels? Orson and bagel? What did I do to deserve this???

Now, you need details about my charming personality. First of all, when Midwest BREW rescued me, I was just finishing up heartworm treatment in Indiana. I’m finished with that terrible treatment now, and feel much better. Mom and Dad could hardly tell I’d been sick! Anyway, now I have to make sure to take my heartworm preventative every 28 days and get regular check ups. See, good as new!

Mom and Dad say I’m one of the funniest beagles they’ve ever seen. For example, I love to carry things! Shoes, socks, bones, whatever. I don’t chew on them, but I take them for walks. I’m really good about putting them down when I’m told to though. I also love to sit in chairs, especially lawn chairs and table chairs. I think I’m actually part human! I’m a jumper when I see something I like, so I have to work on my manners. I love food, so I’m a typical beagle. I love walks too, and I’m getting more and more fit since my treatment ended, but I'm a puller so I need to work on it. I’m just so happy to be outside, I get in a hurry to see and sniff everything. I’m super snuggly, super sweet, and have very expressive eyes. I also have the best AROOOOO ever. It’s not too loud and I only use it when I’m feeling impatient, such as when my old foster brothers are working too slowly. It makes Mom and Dad laugh every time! Dad says I have to put my whole 31 lb. body into it to get it to come out right. It takes lots of effort, but it works!

I’m working on potty training and am learning to go to the door when I need to go out. Mostly, I mark because there are other boys in the house. I’m getting better though, but you have to watch me super close until I get used to the routine.

Foster note: Coop would probably be fine as an only dog; he plays well with our 3 dogs and is not dominant. He also played really well with puppies we recently had. Since our pups are older, he is also good about amusing himself. He will hang out with the humans, or drop toys to listen to their noise.
