My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Riggs! Isn't he just adorable? Riggs has got quite a story and a pretty rough past but one that has never crushed his spirit!
Riggs was a dog that learned about when he was on death row in the Manhattan ACC. We secured a foster home and committed to taking Riggs into our rescue, he was known as Seymour at that time. After committing to him we wound up dealing with a roller coaster of emotion as the shelter decided to allow his owner to take him back. See Riggs was running as a stray, brought into the shelter, became ill, was scheduled to be euthanized and after all of that his owner stepped forward. It was very disheartening for us but the shelter insisted on releasing him back to his owner.
Then after months went by we received a distraught phone call about a dog that was microchipped to our organization that had been tied to a pole in the Bronx and abandoned. We were horrified! We immediately got to work on figuring out which dog this could possibly be and spent a good portion of the date puzzled. After some work and receiving photos we realized this was in fact Seymour now Riggs. We immediately contacted the shelter about this. The individual that had found Riggs was interested in adopting him as he had spent 10 days nursing him back to health. We explained this to the shelter, spent weeks trying to get any kind of answers as well as a transfer to our organization so that we could maintain the care and support for him finally. Unfortunately the shelter would not act on this and in the meantime the person who found Riggs dumped him back at the shelter. We finally were able to have the shelter transfer Riggs to our care which has finally landed him in a safe foster home!
Riggs has faced a great deal as you can see from his story but he remains an outgoing and social dog. He loves everyone he meets, he does well with other dogs, people of all ages and has even done well with the cats in his foster home. Riggs came to us needing some care for a skin issue but he has received the care needed and is looking for an adoptive home to call his very own. We look forward to the day we can provide Riggs with a true adoptive home so that he can start the next chapter of his life.
If you would like to adopt Riggs into your family please complete our pre-screen form. Riggs' foster parent would be more than happy to discuss Riggs' as an individual, go over his care, day to date life and training that he has worked on while in his foster home.
