My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Riggs, formerly known as Seymour, has quite the story to tell, it is not a happy story but it is one with a happy ending in the works. See, we learned of Seymour (also known as Roscoe) when he was scheduled for euthanasia in the Manhattan ACC. We secured a foster home and committed to pulling Seymour into our rescue on May 31st, 2013 so that his life could be spared. He was a volunteer favorite and had a pretty great evaluation. June 1st Seymour was microchipped to us at LCPO but the kicker was we were told later in that same day he was being returned to his owner, not what we had expected..we were expecting conformation for transport to our rescue. After several days of stress we learned that he was officially returned to his owner, not sure exactly what day that occurred but June 7th we got a "yeah to his owner, sorry" email in response to our follow up on him. We were as anyone would be, concerned for Seymour but it was clearly out of our hands. Until TODAY 7.19.13 when we received a phone call from a distraught individual who had found a dog TIED TO A POLE in the Bronx, this dog was emaciated, covered in filth and feces and had nothing but a bag of dog food left with him and oh that microchip indicating he was an LCPO dog. Thankfully he was taken home by a wonderful couple 9 days ago and they nursed him back to health and also had him scanned for his mircochip at the vet office which was what led them to us. The caller could not provide a photo at the time so we could only go off of a description, chip number and name (listed as Roscoe). We scrambled to figure out what was really going on as this story did not seem to add up. Well luckily at LCPO we DO take great care in the decisions we make to pull any single dog we take into our care, we save all records and after a short time of piecing together the situation we realized that it was in fact Seymour.. Seymour who once faced being KILLED alone in a shelter because his owner made a careless choice that resculed in him arriving at the ACC, become sick with kennel cough and then just left him there. Despite that the shelter still felt it was better to return this poor dog to his owner instead of to the care of a reputable rescue that has take a large number of their dogs.. but of course had no trouble microchipping him to our organization.. which all things considered for Seymour turned out for the best. In this album, currently as of 7.19.13 you will see 1 of Seymour's shelter photos from Manhattan ACC and several photos taken by a LCPO volunteer who rushed right over to check on him and the current living situation. We are happy to report Seymour has fallen into responsible and loving hands, he has come a long way in just 9 days time. He loves his saviors and their dog. We are working to get this entire situation resolved, looking into pressing charges on a neglectful owner who abandoned there dog at least a 2nd time, and to work with this family to help them make Seymour an official part of their family. We need to work with the shelter in order to finalize all of this but to this point on 7.19.13 we have yet to hear back from a single person at the shelter. We and all rescuers put up with and deal with a LOT on a daily basis for the sake of these dogs.. it is absolutely disheartening to see such lack of actual care for such a situation where the shelter completely FAILED this poor dog. Stay tuned as we will update on Seymour and his story, he deserves for his story to be heard and for it to have a happy ending!!!! And PLEASE do your best to keep your pets out of the shelter system!!!
