Brimley is an affectionate 8 year-old Schnauzer that weighs 14lbs. This furry gentleman is well behaved, sweet, and cuddly. Brimley is house trained and gets along well with other dogs once he has a chance to get to know them a little. A typical Schnauzer, Brimley LOVES attention. This low key guy enjoys exploring the yard, walks around the neighborhood, snuggling on the couch and of course, naps! When it's time for bed, he is happy to cuddle up in his own bed.
Brimley has diabetes and requires insulin injections done twice a day, with a blood test done periodically to make sure his insulin is at the correct dose. These are really simple injections that go just under the skin with a fine needle. As a result of his diabetes, he is recently blind (glaucoma and cataracts) and has had surgery to remove his eyes to prevent further pain and discomfort. Brimley has been through so much, but is such a little trooper. He amazes his foster parents every day with his strength, resilience and capabilities. His sense of smell is acute and Brimley is able to get around the house surprisingly well – he can locate his doggy door, water, food, and bed like he’s on autopilot. When it comes to walks, Brimley trots around the neighborhood with such a confident and spunky strut that you would never know that he is blind.
Brimley also knows how to "Sit", is great in the car, and doesn’t mind baths. He is a good little eater and is not at all picky, but needs to be kept on a high quality low fat dog food to keep his blood sugar stable. The best fit for Brimley would be with a loving family/person who can spend time with him. He would be happy with a doggie pal, but is also fine on his own. Brimley is neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. He is going to make someone a great family member. Please go to Second Chance's website http://www.secondchancedogrescue.org/ to complete an application to meet him and see if you are a match. His adoption fee is $200, and helps the organization cover neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatment, food and supplies.
All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog.
We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information.
All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog.
Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home.
