Hi! My name is Kirby. Thanks for visiting my page. I'm a Blue-Crowned conure who was found flying outdoors on the North Shore. Luckily, some nice person approached me and turned me into the Refuge, where I've been living ever since. Since coming to the Refuge, I've been diagnosed with Aspergillosis, so I'm on medication to make me feel better. Don't worry though - I'm really good about taking my medicine! I tend to be a bit cage aggressive and will put on a big show if you open my cage to clean it. However, I will step up nicely onto a towel and once away from my cage, I am a fun guy. When I get excited, the feathers on my head fluff up and the volunteers at the Refuge just adore this 'hairstyle' when I display it! I don't especially like petting, but am very happy to ride around on your shoulder while you talk to me and point out different objects to me.

About a Refuge for Saving the Wildlife, Incorporated

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a not-for-profit, no-kill parrot rescue, rehabilitation, education and adoption shelter.

We are accredited by the Association of Avian Rescue Organizations (AARO) and licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Welfare to provide for adoptions. We are also a member of the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Currently, you can meet our pets online at http://rescuethebirds.org/content/section/6/32/. Once you have submitted an application and had both a phone interview and home inspection, you will be invited to come meet some of the birds in person.

Our Adoption Process...

All of our animals have an individualized fee associated with their adoption which is based upon the vet fees incurred. Please contact us for an adoption application. There will then be a phone interview, home inspection, and then you will visit with the birds to help determine which bird is appropriate for your home.
