My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is gorgeous 3 1/2 yr old Howard, who came from a Hannibal, MO animal control (as a stray). He is very sweet and playful but still has a very laid back disposition. My children absolutely love him and, besides drooling and begging for whatever the kids have at the kitchen table, he does great with them!

Okay, so every rescue is not perfect. Howard loves girl dogs but not real nuts about the boys. He would adjust better if there were a laid back female dog already in the household. He will also need a patient family that's willing to deal with a short adjustment period as Howard is not big into change. He doesn't go crazy, he just is nervous about it. Once he figures out that all is well, he's totally okay with life. Also, he's not a climber but he is a digger. He can be left outside, unattended, with a privacy fence that has no daylight at the bottom when the ground is completely frozen, that's it. Otherwise, he needs supervision when he's outside or he'll dig out, I promise.

He really is an awesome dog, that is for sure! I'll be very sad to see him go.

All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, heartworm tested, vaccinated against Bordetella, DHLP, Influenza, and Rabies, as well as microchipped prior to adoption. We require a $350 adoption fee that will partially recover our expenses. We do require that an adoption application be filled out and submitted (http://gprwi.org/adoption-application.html). Upon receipt we will check veterinary and personal references and then schedule a home visit. We do require a fenced in yard (an invisible fence is not an acceptable means of confinement).

We are always in search of approved foster homes. Upon receipt of a foster application, a similar process to an adoption is done. We will provide veterinary care, boarding, and grooming and you will only have to provide food, love and a secure environment.

Please visit our website at www.gprwi.org for more info and applications
