My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Frankie! Frankie is a one-year-old male Boerboel (African Mastiff). Frankie is thought to be purebred, but due to rescue circumstances, no paperwork has been or will be provided. Frankie is 130 lbs. currently and will most likely fill out to be closer to 150 lbs.
About Boerboels:
Because Even Chance is a pit bull/pit bull mix rescue, we feel it is important to note that Boerboels are NOT related to pit bulls, they are a very different breed of dog. A Boerboel is not for everyone. They are a powerful, protective breed that could easily overpower their owner if not handled properly. Boerboels need strong and stable owners, they need to look to their owner for direction. They are a working dog, they need to have room for exercise, fed high quality food, have adequate health care and plenty of attention. If you are ready to commit your time, energy and finances into a great family companion then a Boerboel may be right for you! We encourage you to do your research on the breed to ensure a Boerboel is the right fit for your family and lifestyle. Here are two sites to reference:

Frankie’s background:
Frankie’s owners relinquished him to a local St. Louis shelter. A shelter environment is NOT conducive to the necessary bonding, obedience and exposure to daily life a maturing Boerboel needs to thrive as a family pet, so the shelter contacted Even Chance to help.
Frankie is currently being fostered in Even Chance’s trainer’s home, he lives with 4 other dogs of various breeds and sizes, he also visits families and shelters with our trainer for extra socialization practice and monitored play groups, he has not met a dog he doesn’t like so far. Frankie has had consistent exposure to people of all types and ages as well as new dogs on a daily basis. Frankie knows basic obedience and is house-trained and crate-trained. He is wonderful on leash. He also has a fairly low prey drive. Frankie loves his family and getting affection and attention. He will attach and bond very closely to his owner, he prefers to be within 5-ft. of his family at all times Basic training has been very successful with Frankie, he is very treat-motivated.
Frankie loves children, but due to his massive size could easily knock over a small child. So older children in the home are preferred. Frankie is much more active at dusk, so evening walks are a must. Although Frankie has not matured into his full personality, Boerboels, by nature are very protective of their family, as Frankie matures over the next two years, he will grow increasingly protective and territorial. He needs a dedicated and responsible family that will be meticulous about properly introducing him to ALL visitors and new comers to the home. Frankie’s new owners will need to take the time to introduce Frankie to ALL of his neighbors and frequent visitors of the property. Boerboels are courageous and protective, they are ready to protect their family at all times.
Frankie’s adoption will NOT be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Even Chance is looking for the perfect match for Frankie and will give preference to families with similar breed experience as well as having a stable, responsible and loving home to offer to Frankie. Ongoing training and socialization will be a requirement of Frankie’s adoptive family.
Frankie’s adoption fee is $500, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and the extra training we have provided him with.
