My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Belle – Chow Chow/Labrador Retreiver Mix

Belle is a nice dog with a medium-short, soft black coat. She has the full purple-black tongue of the Chow but it is very plain to see the Labrador characteristics in her face and body shape. Although friendly, she can be somewhat shy and aloof with strangers but bonds very tightly to her family who she sees as her “pack” and is very loyal and affectionate with them. She is a medium sized dog, sturdily built with a loosely curled tail.

She is believed to be about three years old and although she is fairly inactive for most of the day, she needs time to explore and play to maintain her happy and content disposition. She is a quiet dog and would do fine in an apartment as long as she was included in family outings and taken for a brisk daily walk. She is an intelligent dog and even with a backyard of her own to romp in, Belle will still need to be taken for walks in order to meet her need for mental and physical stimulation.

Belle, like other adult black dogs, had been overlooked in the shelter environment but she definitely deserves the chance to be part of a family. She is fun-loving, playful, inquisitive and affectionate and would make an ideal family pet. Belle enjoys playing with other dogs and would thoroughly enjoy a canine companion or visits to the dog park. Like most dogs that have had extended stays in a shelter environment, Belle will need some refreshers in obedience and leash work but overall she is well behaved, very clean and attentive.
