Diamond, a 12 year old Female Silver Shaded Persian

How is it that a purebred cat, with registration papers to prove her pedigree, is surrendered to rescue? We haven’t kept a tally of reasons for surrender, but these three are certainly among the most common:
• A breeder chooses, or is compelled, to stop breeding cats.
• An owner passes away or is incapacitated, and no family member is willing or able to care for the cat.
• An owner finds somebody new of the human species, and that relationship for some reason excludes the cat.
Diamond has the depressing story of having been surrendered twice for two of these three reasons. She was originally purchased from a breeder but was subsequently relinquished to rescue after her owner was hospitalized. She was placed in a new home, but then her second owner married, and again she found herself in limbo. Her foster mom, who especially loves silver Persians, hastened to take her back into rescue. She then found another new home but alas her elderly owner could no longer keep up with Diamond’s grooming needs and she was again returned to rescue. And here she waits once more hoping that this time she will find a permanent home.
Diamond is a slightly shy girl with gorgeous, deep green eyes. She loves to sleep on the bed, on top of a pillow, and sleeps soundly through the night. Brushing sessions are best kept short; right now she has a lion cut. She lets herself be held for short periods of time but would rather be admired than cuddled. She has spent most of her life in households with other cats but could also be placed in a single-cat household.
Diamond just celebrated her 12th birthday on September 18th and she also received a perfect bill of health from the vet. She even had a senior blood panel and everything was just fine. Like every Persian, she demands special attention. In exchange for her love and affection, you will need to brush her or keep her in a lion cut (highly recommended as you can see how matted she can get in the photo) and wash her pretty face every day. We recommend L-lysine as a supplement for many Persians, and for any cat that tends to have drainage from the eyes. Diamond is litter box perfect and accustomed to using a horizontal scratcher. Adopters experienced with Persians will have priority over other applicants.
