My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you having trouble deciding whether to rescue a German Shepherd, the second most popular family dog, or a Golden Retriever, the third? No worries! Misty is a Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix. She is 18 months old, spayed, current on shots, and easy to love. Misty weighs around 80 pounds. She is well-proportioned, fit, athletic, energetic, and highly intelligent.

Misty's "inner Shepherd" is a loyal family companion, a herder and a watch dog. She will become fond of your dog-savvy children once you have helped establish their relationship. Misty's "inner Golden" is an engaging Velcro girl. She was a skilled and loving puppy mother. That's right, she was a teenage mom, her litter of nine arrived with her.

Here's a few words from Misty herself:
My foster family says I am the world's BEST cuddler. When invited, I squeeze between my foster mom and dad and keep them warm at night. I live with my son, Albert, and we play together like it's nobody's business. However, I would probably do best as the only dog. I have been working with a trainer for a few months and have gone through doggy obedience. I am an A+ walker on the leash and know my sits, downs and waits. I am still working on my leave its. I haven't had much experience interacting with other dogs and so I am learning and working with my trainer to learn that not every dog is bad. I haven't had too much experience with kids, but when I do, I'm very gentle and like getting my belly rubbed. I follow my foster family around and get lonely when they are out. I'd probably do best with a family who doesn't leave me at home alone all day. I have been crate trained but my foster family feels comfortable enough leaving me in their bedroom when they are not home rather than in the crate. I have been known to jump fences but haven't tried in the last month and a half. My boundary training has really done wonders.

Misty's new family will need a secure fenced yard; and will need to commit to advanced training, regular "home work," spending lots of time with Misty, consistent positive reinforcement and loving leadership. Needless, to say . . . . no doggy door for Misty. Misty will do best in a home with no kitties and older children only please.
