My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Let me introduce Griswald, (Griz to his friends), a true gentleman of a dog with a charming demeanor. Griswald is a 3yr old male Lab/Bouvier mix complete with wiry beard and happy smile. He is the size of a Lab, about 55lbs , but has the rough fur of the Bouvier and salt and pepper colouring. Griswald came to us from a rural pound where he was an unclaimed stray. When we went to the pound to view the dogs we were approached by a staff member who asked us to pay special attention to the “wire haired, scruffy” dog half way down on the right. It seems that Griswald’s lovely temperament won the hearts of the staff and they were really hoping he would find a rescue placement. We were charmed as well and Griswald was our choice that day. We are thrilled with our choice; Griswald is a sweet natured, calm and well behaved dog who really needs a forever home to call his own.

Griz is housetrained and crate trained and is a quiet and calm dog suitable for most living arrangements. He doesn’t require a fenced in yard as he hates to be left out in the yard unattended. He wants to be with his people inside or outside. Although a fenced yard will be a great convenience for bathroom breaks and play sessions, he would do just as well in an apartment, house, or condo without a fenced yard, being taken out regularly for leashed walks and bathroom breaks. He is happiest if he is with his people and will follow you around the house to be with you. Thankfully though, although completely attached to his people, he does rest quietly in his crate when you leave. He doesn’t panic or bark when crated. He is very happy when you return though and wiggles his entire body with joy. In the home Griswald lies quietly at your feet; happy to be close by but not obtrusive. Griswald knows “sit”, “stay”, “down” and “shake a paw” and will roll over for a belly rub for every person he meets. He loves to have his belly rubbed and will lie contentedly with his feet in the air for as long as you want to rub his belly. Griswald asks for very little, he finds happiness in the small things: head pats, belly rubs, walks, treats and supper! Griz is a good eater! He has a Lab’s appetite and always licks his bowl clean, but shows no aggression around his dish and will let you put your hands in his dish and remove it if needed. Griswald also lets us trim his nails, brush him, handle every part of his body and grab his collar. He will let you do anything to him and all he wants in return is a “good boy”. Griswald is very responsive to commands and he is a real pleaser. He tries very hard to do what you want of him and usually only needs to be told once to establish the rules.

Griswald would be a great family dog, he shows no aggression and although not being fostered with kids, we feel that he would be fine in a family with children. He is a calm and quiet dog though and likes a similar household so a busy family with young, active and loud children will not be suitable for him. He is being fostered with dogs and is well behaved with them. He would be fine with another calm and well-mannered dog but he’s not one for raucous play so a family with a young and exuberant dog might be too much for him. As for cats, we have found that this is Griswald’s one vice. He does not like cats and cannot live peaceably with one. We feel this goes for any small critters unless they are kept completely separate from him. Griswald loves going for walks and is well behaved on leash making him an easy dog to walk. He will go for as long or as short of a walk as you like. He will need regular exercise as he is a young and fit dog, but he doesn’t demand a lot of high energy exercise. He is a low energy dog capable of long walks and hikes but not needing excessive activity to be happy. Griswald is good in the car and travels well. We don’t feel that he was taken for car rides in his previous home, but he is getting used to them now.

Griswald is an easy dog to love and to live with. He will make himself at home with little fuss. How he became a stray and wasn’t claimed is beyond us. Griswald will never willingly leave your side, he is loyal and loving. We are thankful to be able to give Griswald the opportunity for a better home this time around where he will be cherished and appreciated and will never be abandoned again. Griswald is a diamond in a rough coat. He will be your next greatest dog ever. He is waiting patiently for his forever family to find him. Maybe that is your family?

An adoption donation of $400 is required. This helps cover our costs for veterinary care including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test, deworming and whatever else the dog may require.
