My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Annie is believed to be an approximately 8 month old schnauzer mix. We believe she may be a schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle), but are not sure. Annie was found as a stray in SC and landed in a high kill rural shelter. Our volunteer got a call from the shelter telling her she just had to come see this baby. The worker at the shelter said she would have a hard time getting adopted, as she was terrified in the shelter. She hid in the back of her kennel and wouldn't engage with the people visiting the shelter in search of a dog. The worker said there was "something in her eyes" that made her want to save her life, and that is why she called our volunteer. And she couldn't have been more right! Annie weighs about 30 lbs and is about full grown. She is a nice medium size dog. Fortunately, she got the schnauzer coat, and she does not shed. She is a very active little girl, still very much a puppy. She loves to play with her foster brother, and also gets along with the 2 older dogs in the house. She loves to play with her toys and she really loves biscuits! She had to learn inside manners, as we don't think she had ever been indoors. She has come out of her shell full speed and loves people! She is very goofy and will entertain you for hours as she can be quite silly. When she is ready to rest, she loves nothing more than to snuggle up with a human and go to sleep. She fancies herself a lap puppy! And she loves to sleep in the bed at night with her foster brothers and sister. When she was at the shelter, she was known as Mops, and as you can see in her before picture, she was aptly named! Our volunteer saw the schnauzer in her and gave her a haircut. Whether you prefer the shaggy look or the more groomed look, she is adorable either way! She walks well on a leash and is learning her basic commands. She actually is a very smart dog, and the more she is being talked to, the smarter she is becoming. Annie would do best in an active household. She would love a house with another dog or two and a large fenced yard so she could work out her energy. She loves to run laps around the yard when she first goes out, and seems to have a lot of energy to burn! Or maybe a family that exercises regularly and would want a friend along! She will be fine with children but would have to be watched around very young children, as she tends to get excited and may knock them over in her exuberance, but she is not at all aggressive. She is a very loving dog and she will cover you with kisses.

Annie is almost completely housebroken (the occasional accident happens every once in a rare while and should be expected as she probably never lived indoors) and is not crated at all. She has been fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines. She tested negative for heartworm and is on heartworm and flea prevention.

Interested adopters must be willing to commit to at least 15 years for this girl so she never again knows abandonment or neglect or being displaced. Please email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an application. Adopters are subject to reference checks, vet check, home visit, and a meet and greet with all 1 and 4 legged family members. Adoption fee applies.
