My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Yuuhi (you-hee), which means "flying leap" in Japanese, is an 11 month old pure bred Red male Shiba Inu that came to us from Aurora Animal Shelter. He was originally in a home that didn't want him and was supposedly abusing him. A young friend of this family took him into his parent's home but Yuuhi didn't get along with the resident dog and the mother of the family took him to the shelter and also contacted us so that we could get him from the shelter and into rescue.

So far Yuuhi is a typical young teenage dog. He enjoys playing with toys and chewing on anything you give him. He loves balls and the bigger the better! He is good with men, women and children but he would do best as the only pet in the house. While he does ok with dogs in small doses, when there is a food item involved he gets possessive aggressive. He has been in a home with cats and if they stand their ground, he is respectful, but if they run he will chase them. He may do best in a home without cats long term, but it will probably depend on the particular cat.

Yuuhi earns his name well because he can clear short fencing and gates. He will need a home with 6 foot wood fencing so that he cannot escape. He can't be fostered in an apartment as he is very vocal when left. He is working on crate training but needs a sturdy plastic or heavy gauge metal crate because he can bend wires and get out of some wire crates. He is being fed in his crate to associate it with positive things. If given enough exercise he does settle down in the crate and quit barking within 10-20 minutes.

Yuuhi's adoption fee is $400.00. It includes his neuter, deworming, distemper and rabies vaccinations, microchip and a 6 week professional training course at an approved location local to the adopter.
